She became the first Indian to win Oscars for her phenomenal work in the movie Gandhi which is a biopic on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
Satyajit Ray
Satyajit Ray has won numerous awards for his excellent work as a director, producer, music composer, screenwriter, etc. He one of the most famous filmmakers in India who is recognized worldwide for his contribution to the Indian Cinema especially Bengali cinema. In the year 1992, the Motion Pictures Arts and Science awarded the Honorary Award to Satyajit Ray for his uncountable excellent works. His movies like PatherPachali, Aparajito, Nayak, Kanchanjanga, Goopy GayenBaghaByne, etc. are famous worldwide. He was unable to receive the award by himself due to his illness.
AR Rahman
The only Indian artist who has won not just one but two Oscars is AR Rahman for Best Original Song and Best Original Score in the movie Slumdog Millionaire. He won this award in the 81st Academy Awards in the year 2008. He shared the Best Original Score Award with Gulzar. AR Rahman is one of the most popular music director and composer in India and has won many other awards for his excellent music.
Gulzar
Again for the movie Slumdog Millionaire, Gulzar won the Oscars in the Best Original Score category along with music director AR Rahman. Gulzar won this award for the song ‘Jai Ho’. Gulzar is a legendary music composer and singer. For the song ‘Jai Ho’ he wrote the lyrics which became popular all over the world. He has won many awards including the DadashahebPhalke Award and the Padma Bhusan for his contribution to the Indian Cinema.
Resul Pookutty
For the movie Slumdog Millionaire again, Resul Pookutty received the Oscars in the category of Best Sound Mixing, in the same year as Gulzar and AR Rahman. His work in this movie for sound designing, sound editing and sound mixing was recognized and appreciated.
