India has now 504 million active Internet users, or people who accessed the Internet in the previous one month.
Of the total Internet users, 433 million are more than age of 12 years and above, while 71 million are in the age bracket of 5-11 years who access internet on the devices of family members.
Internet users who are in the age of 5-11 years are 14% of total internet users in the country, according to the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
The report noted that nearly 70% of the active Internet population in India are daily users. In urban India, nine out of 10 users access the Internet at least once a week. In rural India, the number of Internet users who access Internet daily had grown by 30 million compared to March 2019.
Close to one-third of users access Internet for ‘more than an hour’ during Sundays and holidays versus a normal working day, report stated.
The report also claims that the time spent on the Internet continues to be higher in urban India compared to rural parts of the country, but with better connectivity and affordability of mobile Internet, there could be an increase in rural areas’ users spending more time in future.
As reported, 26 million new female Internet users were added in November 2019. This is an increase of 21% compared to a 9% rise in male users.
Mobile Phones became the first choice for accessing internet in urban and rural areas of the country as users can get it at affordable rates.
